My Weekend...

  • Nov. 16th, 2009 at 8:41 AM
Me in Hat
I'm off to the dentist this morning for a follow up to check on my fillings, so get an extra hour lying around the house. Not actually sure what he's actually going to be doing to them, so I'm hoping it's not too much after not seeing a dentist for five years.

Finally got the living room rearranged the way I wanted it this weekend. Moving bookcases around is a bigger task than you'd imagine, and even with all the books removed and put into not so tidy piles all round the room they were heavier than I remembered. But they're finally where I wanted them, next to each other behind you as you sit at the computer, and it makes the room look so much neater, so that's good.

However, moving everything around to make space as well as everything that was living on the shelves simply to get them out of the way being put on the floor means that the rest of the living room is no a tip. And then with both Frankie and I feel pretty rotten all yesterday meant we didn't have the energy to sort it out, so my job for the week will be to sort out all of this mess so I don't have to waste my entire weekend next week tidying.

Also finally typed up a blog entry I'd had in my head for ages. It seemed to take more than a while to get down, and once I'd done I had a look at th word count. 2800 words!? That one will need some trimming and editing then.

Headlines...

Far be it from me to be able to criticize anyone's spelling, grammar or use of the English language in anything resembling the correct way, but when reading, in today's Metro, the headline "Brown Axes TA Spending Cuts" it struck me that surely if you axe a cut you're only going to make it worse? As far as I'm aware, and I admit I'm not a doctor, an axe blow will not heal a cut.

Then I thought; it is the Metro. What do I expect?

(I am also aware that it is traditional that whenever you make a comment on somebody else's spelling or grammar then you yourself have to make a mistake within that comment, just to look stupid. Combined with the fact that this is me, I appologize in advance for the inevitable mistake [info]andit will spot and mock me for)

The Reading Wot I Wrote...

This is the reading I wrote for our wedding; the one I wrote originally and thought it was the most appalling dross. I'm actually quite happy with it now, but that may be due to the fact that... <more>

Gnocchi = Mash

Frankie And Me
Cooked dinner for the in-laws last night. Chicken turned out fine, even if the sauce could have been thinker, but but I didn't know that Frankie's father won't eat chicken legs, which meant he had a little less than everyone else. My attempt a gnocchi, though, ended up as sweet potato mash with extra flower. Next time I'll try baking to potatoes rather than boiling them, and find better potatoes.

It was great being able to use all our new wedding gift items to lay the table though, rather than have them sit there for years before they actually got a use.

26!

Feel slightly better now, mainly due to the combination of a good nights sleep followed by birthday cards and presents in bed this morning.

I'm twenty six. It's odd how last year I felt a lot older turning 25, but 26 doesn't seem to have the same connotations of being older. But I've got Nandos tonight, and then out again on Friday to a restaurant as yet undecided.

Gifts = Packaging

Frankie And Me
Wedding gifts are great, but until we can make a trip to the recycling centre in Acton this weekend our flat has just about been taken over by packaging. What's annoying is that there is still a few things I wanted to get done from the weekend, such as vacuum and clean the fish tank, but they'll have to wait now until I can reach both the fish tank, or indeed the floor.

Plus, I cannot deny that having an X-Box 360 is surely going to lead to a curtailment of my productivity. Oh well, if you've got an X-Box Live tag, post it here so I can connect to the system and be part of the crowd.

My weekend

Had a good weekend, being lazy with a streak of productiveness. A lot of the flat got tidied and sorted, even if I didn't get everything I meant to done, such as cleaning the fish and vacuuming, but it's not like it was urgent. I've really been enjoying not having anything to get done over weekends since the wedding. Sitting around with the wife playing WoW is how Sundays were meant to be spent.

We did almost manage to complete a two man run of The Deadmines as well, just to see if we could. I was quite impressed that we got all the way to Van Cleef before our virtual asses we handed to us on a plate by his invisible minions.

Made an apple and blackberry crumble for dinner, however I slightly overfilled the dish, so when it got put in the oven the filling started to bubble over, coating the bottom with a thick apple, blackberry and butter sauce which proceeded to cook rapidly and fill my kitchen with smoke. I am now very glad our currently kitchen is unlike our last one with a smoke detector in the room, as I wouldn't have been able to shut the thing off all evening. Crumble was good though, so it was all worth it. Thinking of it's goodness will have to give me strength when I'm on my knees scrubbing my oven clean of burnt on fruit.

First batch of wedding presents should be arriving today, the knowledge of which should get me through the day. Woot for stuff!

I feel the need to revamp my LJ. I want to change a few of my icons, and just play around with the layout. I just need to find the time now.

Frankie And Me
On the evening on January 6th 2007 I proposed to Frankie Grillo.

Today, at 2pm, I am going to marry her.

Doesn't time fly. It feels both an eternity ago, yet also only yesterday she said "Yes", and suddenly she's on the verge of saying "I Do" as well.

Time to go and get dressed.

"LOL at the Spider Shamens Powers"!

Last night, I randomly got a comment on this post on my blog, that I wrote almost a full year ago. It was anonymous, so I can't even say who it was, but it's a little bit late. But, to be fair, the comment "have you ever thought of getting help???" is perfectly valid after reading the post.

However, I do prefer the other anonymous comment I already had on there; "I am stoned right now and found this story highly amusing - lol at the spider shamens powers". I feel if I can get a response like that from my writing, I'm doing something right. :)

So, only three more days to go until the Big Day. Two more days of going into work, then one day off to spend double checking everything we need has been sorted and is still booked, sorting out any last little details that come up at the last minute and, when I can, just resting as much as I can. And the, the day itself.

I keep getting told I should be frightened, or at least...

In other news, Does anyone else feel pity for Patrick Swayzie. Whatever you felt about him as an actor, the coverage of his death, like most celebrity deaths, but will tinted by one fact that I feel does him a disservice. He did a lot of work, and almost all of it infinately better that the dross that is Dirty Dancing, but that is what will keep getting talked about, shown on TV, and played on the radio.

At least when Michael Jackson dies all the music they played was good.
